The Shelf · Last updated May 22, 2026

The Shelf ("the app", "we", "us") is a personal book-tracking and reading-recommendation app operated by Flos Artis. This policy explains what information the app collects, how it is used, and the choices you have.

Information we collect

Account information. When you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address, and profile picture from your Google account. We use this to create and identify your account.

Your library data. The app stores the reading information you add or import — books, ratings, shelves, reading dates, notes, page progress, "did not finish" marks, and your selected favorite books and authors. If you import a library from Goodreads or StoryGraph, the contents of that export are stored as part of your library.

Usage data. We use Vercel Analytics to collect basic, aggregate usage information such as page views and feature events. This data is not used to identify individual users.

Guest mode and local storage. If you use the app without signing in, your library is stored only in your browser's local storage and is not sent to our servers. The app also uses local storage to keep you signed in and remember preferences.

How we use your information

We do not sell your personal information.

AI features and third-party processing

The Shelf's recommendation and analysis features are powered by Anthropic's Claude API. When you use these features, information about your library — such as book titles, authors, and your ratings — is sent to Anthropic to generate results. This information is processed to provide the feature and is not used by us for any other purpose.

Third-party services

The app relies on the following services, each of which handles data under its own privacy policy:

Data retention and deletion

We retain your account and library data for as long as your account exists. You may request deletion of your account and associated data at any time by contacting us at the email below, and we will remove it from our systems.

Data security

Your data is stored with Supabase, which provides industry-standard security measures. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your information.

Children's privacy

The Shelf is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "last updated" date above.
